The lightly raced colt Your Song resumed with a most impressive win, scoring by five lengths at Group One level at only his seventh start. He travelled well, fourth one out and one back before moving through to be second at the turn. He dashed clear at the 200m and went on for an easy win, excelling in the heavy conditions. Rain Affair went straight to the front and he travelled along strongly. He fanned a bit wide looking for better going at the turn and looked the winner on straightening, only to find his younger rival clearly superior today, holding on to take second. Another three-year-old, Better Than Ready was wide early and was eased to settle second last in the 11-horse field. He got through in the centre at the turn, went to a distant sixth at the 200m before running on for a sound third, beaten just over six lengths. The favourite Buffering ($2.50) missed the start and was then caught wide as he urged to improve. He was fifth (three wide without cover) from the 800m and never looked a winning chance in the straight, plugging on in the heavy conditions to finish (6.8 lengths) fourth. Last year’s winner Sea Siren was handily placed in third spot on the rails most of the way to 600m but she struggled on the heavy track dropping out from that point to finish (15 lengths) eighth. *ANZ
