The Fastnet Rock filly Casquets, raced by a syndicate headed by Coolmore, scored a good win, having her second start. She settled seventh, back about four lengths travelling easily before joining the leading group of fillies at the 300m. She drew to the lead at the 200m and fought gamely to the post to win narrowly but well. Annenberg was restrained early, racing behind runners in about fifth spot. She drove through to challenge at the 300m then came away, with the subsequent winner, battling on strongly, beaten by only a long head at the post. Essie’s Pride was second last in the 10-horse field early and started to make ground from the 400m, getting to fourth at the 200m, before battling on quite well to take third beaten two and a quarter lengths. Politeness was about fifth, just behind the leading division. She was asked to quicken passing the 400m and made ground in the latter stages to finish three lengths fourth. Debut runner Great Esteem was handy on the rails but was inconvenienced at the 600m, going back to tenth at the 400m. He was then switched out wide and he ran on quite nicely for fifth. *ANZ
