Resistant was smartly away and eased to get an ideal run, one out and one back. He moved up comfortably passing the 400m, took the lead at the 200m and went on to win impressively by two lengths. It was a nice win. Jade’s Boy moved up early to race outside the leader (Salute To Jude), he pressured that horse rounding the home turn, got to second at the 200m and kept battling on to hold that position at the post. Great Esteem was eased at the start and settled eighth one off the rails, following a moderate pace (first 800m 49.52). He pushed out rounding the home turn and ran on fairly well for third, being unsuited by the sprint home tactics of the race. The favourite Mahican settled sixth one of the rails, put in a reasonable run on turning for home but then only battled on to take fourth, beaten almost five lengths. *ANZ
