The half-brother to dual Group One winner Star Witness, Nostradamus ($1.40 fav) scored most impressively on debut. He was a little wayward from barrier one but quickly recovered to share the early lead on the rails side. He then set a moderate tempo before Glen Boss asked him for an effort passing the 300m. He then opened a good break and was eased down nearing the post to win by two and a quarter lengths, sprinting home in a fast 33.86 (last 600m). He looks a very smart colt. Jarklin was ridden quietly in about fifth place, about two lengths back from the leaders. He put in a run at the 300m, got to second at the 200m and then fought on nicely for a good second. The David Hayes-trained Hennessy Rock was a handy third most of the way and battled on quite well to hold that placing at the post, beaten just under three lengths. Turfane ($31) shared the lead, racing at the girth of the eventual winner to the 400m and then held on for fourth, beaten just over five and a half lengths. *ANZ
