Classy sprinter Zamorar returned after a wind operation to score a narrow but smart first-up win. He raced back in eighth place behind runners before Katelyn Mallyon switched him to the centre of the course at the 500m. He then came with a well-timed run to grab a last-stride win in good fashion. Fab Fevola went straight to the lead with Glen Boss rating him well (first 400m 23.66). He set up a clear break on passing the 400m and only wilted in the latter stages, being overhauled on the post for second. Smackdown was a handy to the leaders most of the way and fought on well for a close-up third. *ANZ
