After showing promise with five placings at his first six starts, Lindsay Park-trained two-year-old colt American Genius broke through for his first win here, putting up a good effort in beating older runners. He was smartly away but after being caught wide was eased to settle back in eighth place (wide with cover). He made a wide move coming to the home turn, took the lead at the 100m and then drew clear to win well.
