Upstart Pride was one of the first away from the barriers and past the 1000m had a clear lead. At the 600m he was out by four lengths with another four lengths back to third in a strung out field. Rider James Orman had not moved a muscle as they approached the last corner and it was not until the straight with 300m remaining that he gave him a flick. They were still a length clear at the 200m yet beginning to feel the effort but he found more and went to the line a length and a quarter clear for a good win. Jopa was midfield approaching the last corner, ran up five wide turning in and made a prolonged run to get into second late without ever looking like catching the winner. Flamboyer was second into the straight, tried to get on terms with the winner but was passed late, holding on for third. Hi I'm Back was fourth turning in then battled best of the rest to hold (2.7 lengths) fourth.
