The Gerald Ryan-trained filly Runway Star scored a narrow but very good win here on debut. She began well and went straight to the lead. She travelled well and front and drew clear nearing the home turn and looked set for an easy win on straightening but she raced a little greenly in the latter stages, permitting the runner-up to make late ground on her. It was still a good win and in smart time (1:10.54). She is a promising filly. The four-year-old mare Hugs All Round was back in eighth place, moved up wide nearing the home turn, got to a distant second at the 200m and made late ground to finish second, without really looking likely to threaten the winner. *ANZ
