The $26 outsider In Cahoots took his record to four wins from eight starts in taking out his first stakes win. He began well and settled fourth, enjoying a good trip behind the leading trio before moving up wide approaching the home turn. He challenged half-way down the straight, and then fought gamely to win by half a length, handling the Heavy 10 track well. The favourite Chautauqua was slow to move and settled second last in the 11-horse field. He improved between runners at the 600m, got a split on straightening, went to the rails at the 100m and finished well, putting up a good effort for second. Dothraki began well from his good barrier (3) and took the lead. He was then pressured in front before briefly grabbing a break at the turn. He then fought on for a sound third after working hard most of the way. The filly Shamalia went back from her wide draw (10) and was last to the home turn. She got through between runners at the bend, went to fifth at the 150m and battled on well wide out for fourth. It was a nice run in the conditions. Va Pensiero raced wide on the track, pressuring the leader from the 800m point and then battled on fairly well in the heavy conditions with his top weight (58kg) for fifth. Whittington raced close to the pace to the 800m and then commenced to struggle on the Heavy10 track and dropped out to finish eighth. His run should be overlooked and he will appreciate returning to race on a firm surface. *ANZ
