Joe Pride-trained three-year-old Sugar Bay Leonard scored a good first-up win. He began well from his outside barrier (8) and settled outside the leader (Styrke A Ransom). He easily went to front on straightening and after drawing clear halfway down the straight, he went on to score comfortably. The Gerald Ryan-trained two-year-old Celebris had a nice trip in third place and kept battling on well to take second in an encouraging debut while the Kim Waugh-trained two-year-old filly Stryke A Ransom led the field to the home turn before holding on for third, also racing on debut.
