Promising John Thompson-trained colt Reneged took his record to three wins from eight starts with a decisive win here. He began well from his good barrier (4) and settled in sixth place, one off the rails. He improved well nearing the home turn, took the lead at the 200m and then dashed clear to win easily. Hurricanes was just beyond midfield, was held up between runners coming to the home turn before switching deep on straightening. He then came with a good late run, without threatening the winner, to take a good second. Queensland-trained Intrepic was beaten for the first time in four starts in finishing third. He raced in seventh spot, between runners, got a split going to fourth at the home turn. He then kept battling on to take the minor placing after seeming to have every chance.
