Rhythm To Spare was quickly away from barrier eight and then settled particularly well outside the leader (Majestic Duke). He was travelling comfortably as he moved up nearing the home turn, got to the front halfway down the straight and then dug deep for a smart win. Eximius had a good trip from his inside barrier (1) in third place on the rails. He then got an inside run to challenge at the 200m and fought well for a good second, albeit after having every chance. Longeron was fourth, between runners, angled into clear running at the 200m and battled on quite well for a sound third. Majestic Duke led the field until nearing the 200m and held on for fourth, beaten just under two lengths. The favourite Lord Athenaeum missed the start and raced near the tail of the field. He was under riding nearing the home turn but could not make any improvement and finished 12th in a disappointing performance.
