Hellova Street put up a smart effort in winning this Listed race for the second year in succession. He settled in third spot, enjoying a nice trip behind a hot tempo before moving up (wide) rounding the home turn. He then kept running on strongly, grabbed the lead in the closing stages to score a narrow but good win and in quick time. Geegee’s Doublejay went to the front and was pressured (by Merrick’s Beauty), to the home turn. He got a beak at the 200m and was only headed nearing the post, lasting to dead-heat for second after a hard run. Erin’s Statement was last in the 12-horse field to the home turn. She angled between runners at the 200m and came with a strong late run to deadheat for second, putting up a really good effort. Valiant Warrior was fifth, one off the rails, went deep rounding the home turn and fought well for fourth while the top weight (59kg) Admiral raced behind the leaders in fourth place on the rails, went for and inside run in the straight but was badly checked at the 200m before finishing an unlucky fifth.
