The Irish-bred Count Of Limonade broke through first Australian win at his fifth start since coming to this country. He went forward from his wide barrier (14), was outside the leader early on before racing in fourth place, with cover. He moved up wide nearing the turn, got to the front at the 200m and then battled on well to score nicely by a long neck. Prince Of Penzance had a good trip, sixth between runners, before getting through to challenge at the 200m. He then battled gamely, just being outstayed by the winner to take a sound second. The favourite Kenjorwood was ridden quietly from his inside barrier (1) and settled past midfield, with cover. He put in a wide run at the 600m, fanned very deep at the home turn, got to fourth at the 100m and kept plugging home well from that point to take third.
