Quest Moonee Valley (Rs0mw)
Darley’s two-year-old filly Matilija scored very well on debut and looks a most promising filly. She settled fifth three wide with cover, following a solid pace, before moving up (wide) nearing the 600m. She took the lead at the home turn and drew clear in the straight to score decisively by two lengths. It was a very good effort after working hard most of the event. London Lolly was quickly away from her outside barrier (10) and showed good pace to race outside the leader (Esprit Joy). She challenged at the turn and kept fighting on well in the straight for a good second. Salasun was about seventh between runners and was hard ridden approaching the 600m. She was fifth rounding the turn and made ground to just take (four lengths) third. The favourite Esprit Joy ($3.75) began well and led the field until nearing the home turn but disappointing, tiring to finish seventh. *ANZ
