The Mick Price-trained colt Cao Cao impressed with an easy win here at his second race start after a good debut when second in the Maribyrnong Plate (Gr 3, 1000m) at Flemington on 5 November. He began well, settled nicely in fifth place, between runners, before moving up well rounding the home turn. He hit the front at the 100m and then drew away to score decisively. He looks a smart colt. The Tony Vasiltrained colt Kedleston showed good early pace, settled outside the leader (Blackwolf Run), was under riding nearing the home turn and kept fighting on to hold second, having no chance with the winner. Blackwolf Run went to the front, set quite a good pace, held a break at the home turn and held on for a sound third on debut.
