The Greg Eurell-trained Explosive Witness put up a promising effort in winning here on debut. He got through (under riding) from his inside barrier (1) to settle in third place on the rails, behind a solid tempo before setting out after the leader (Speed Street) on turning for home. He then ran on strongly to score, seemingly with something in hand. It was a smart win and he looks a horse with a good future. The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Speed Street worked in the early stages to find the lead. He then grabbed a good break rounding the home turn and was only overhauled in the closing stages for a very good second in a promising debut.
