This looks a good form race. Peter Morgan-trained three-yearold gelding Sam’s Image scored a smart second up win and in fast time (57.72). After beginning quickly, he showed superior pace to cross to the lead. He grabbed a break on straightening and then fought back to win well. The Robert Smerdon-trained Nature Strip settled in seventh place on the rails, switched deeper (under riding) nearing the home turn and then ran on really well for a late-closing second in a very promising effort at his second race start. Smart Coupe raced in fourth place (one out and one back). She went to third at the home turn and kept battling on well to hold the minor placing. Madeenaty showed her customary pace and soon settled outside the leader (Sam’s Image) going at a good tempo. She was under pressure nearing the home turn and then battled on well under her 60kg top weight for (1.6 lengths) fourth while three-year-old gelding Bluebrook caught the eye, coming with a late run from second last in the eight-horse field to finish (2.1 lengths) fifth in a most promising debut effort.
