Lips Areios was away well from the barrier and was taken forward by Avdulla to settle down in fourth position one off the fence. He travelled well in the run ending up in fifth one of the fence about five lengths from the leader Rong Door Reggie at the halfway stage. He commenced a three wide move from the 800m to be within striking distance on turning for home. He quickly took the lead on straightening and drew away to a most taking victory.
