The consistent mare Just Discreet began well from her good barrier (1) and raced in third place on the rails to the turn. But she was badly blocked for a run in the straight, until eased around heels at the 100m. She then ran on gamely, late for a narrow but good win. Road Warrior was one out and out back, challenged at the 200m but probably cost himself victory by wandering off the track in the latter stages before finishing a close second. Periduki went straight to the front and set a reasonable pace, leading to the final 200m before finishing third, beaten three quarters length. Meadows Jim raced outside the leader (Periduki) to the turn and held on for fourth. While the favourite Essay Raider ($2.05) began better than expected but was trapped three wide without cover in about sixth place. He was very one-paced from the turn and ran on fairly well late, without looking a threat, to finish sixth, beaten a length and a half. *ANZ
