Pretty Punk won well despite a wide run throughout after beginning from the outside barrier (13). She settled towards the rear, three off the rails down the back and began a forward move between the 800m and 600m, yet had to go even wider approaching the last corner. Widest of all upon straightening, she went through her gears and went after the breakaway leader, running him down inside the final 100m to score a big win. Favourite Silvera was third last (rails) at the 600m, getting off the fence before the last corner he then pulled wide tracking the winner into the straight. He ran on well but had too much to do, running on into second over the final 100m. Morvada led narrowly around the bend, edged clear before straightening then broke away into the straight, putting three lengths on them. It looked like a winning break but was passed late by the first two and held on quite well for third.
