A close finish to this 2YO Maiden Plate with the Paul Perrytrained colt Surfin’ Safari winning in a three-way finish. He showed good pace and drove through from his inside barrier (1) to lead. He grabbed a break on turning for home, dashed clear at the 200m and then battled on well to score by a long neck. Lycia was sixth on the rails, behind a packed field, got through on the rails to be second at the 200m and kept fighting on nicely for a second in a sound effort on debut. Kimberley Star began smartly but was caught wide from barrier eight. She was forced deeper rounding the home turn, losing ground and then ran on particularly well in the straight for a lateclosing third, putting up a good effort on debut.
