The champion Black Caviar was a little slow to move but quickly recovered to settle third from her inside barrier but Luke Nolen was intent on getting her away from the rails and switched out then drove forward to be outside the leader (Rain Affair) at the 600m (with Hay List trapped three wide). Nolen set out after the leader passing the 300m and the wonder mare then raced away to win by three lengths – her 25th win and 15th at Group One level. Three-year-old colt Epaulette was second last to the home turn, got an inside run on straightening and ran on very well for an impressive first-up second. Bel Sprinter was badly away, yet again, and was last early. He improved along the rails to be seventh at the 600m then switched out passing the 300m, running on well for a good third. Rain Affair showed his customary dash, leading the field to the 200m and then did well to hold on to take fourth. Sea Siren was trapped wide from her outside barrier and was about ninth to the turn, wide out. She kept running on for fifth after a torrid trip.
