Artlee was smartly away from his wide barrier (14) and settled three wide outside the leading duo. He dashed to the front at the 300m and was untroubled from that point, going on to win impressively by three lengths. Tarangower travelled well in seventh place, saved ground on the rails rounding the home turn and went through to second at the 200m. He then battled on well, having no chance with the winner, to finish (3 lengths) second. Voodoo Lad had a good trip in fourth place, one out and one back. He put in a run nearing the 200m but just kept fighting on from that point to finish third, beaten just under five lengths.
