Malice was ridden quietly by Sam Clipperton and settled nicely in fourth place from his inside barrier (1). He travelled kindly in the mid-stages, despite the extremely slow pace and moved out to challenge shortly after turning for home. He then took a while to wind-up in the sprint home before challenging at the 200m. He then fought on particularly well to score in the last stride. Metaphorical began well and went to the lead, Dwayne Dunn then slowed the pace considerably, the first 1400m taking only 1:31.14, before lifting the tempo from the 600m. He then kept fighting back in the straight, only being caught right on the post for second. Midsummer Sun was sixth, one off the rails, improved wide with cover, nearing the home turn and put in a run from the 300m. He then battled on for third in the sprint home to finish third. Beyond Thankful was back in eighth place, switched wide on turning for home and ran on quite well for (4.9 lengths) fourth, putting up a sound effort considering the slow early tempo. Permit was handy all the way and battled on under his top weight (59kg) for fifth also being unsuited by the lack of pace.
