Mouro went forward from his wide barrier (11) and gradually crossed to race outside the leader (Mutual Trust). He moved up well approaching the home turn, challenged at the 200m and gradually got the better of the leader to win by a length. Mutual Trust began well and went straight to the lead and set reasonable tempo. He then fought back gamely when challenged in the straight, holding on for a good second. The favourite Rhythm To Spare ($2.45) settled seventh on the rails, travelling well. He was held up between runners nearing the home turn, switched across heels into the clear at the 200m. He then kept running on in the sprint home, without looking likely to threaten the winner, for a sound third, beaten a length and quarter. *ANZ
