Much was anticipated after Redkirk Warrior was narrowly beaten in his first Australian start at Moonee Valley last month and he did not disappoint. Craig Williams was unhurried from barrier four early and allowed the gelding to lob into a handy fourth, one out and one back, when they settled. Around the bend they were fifth but in the clear and once into the straight they began their run at the leader. Still three lengths in arrears at the 300m, Williams pumped away and slowly they gathered in the leader and inched in front at the 100m then held on gamely by a good neck to the wire. Stratum Star led down the back, was passed when they started the corner and second turning in. He kept up a solid run to pass the leader and tried to go with the winner in the closing stages, but was held out by a neck at the line. Un De Sceaux raced around the field starting the bend to hold a clear lead turning for home and battled on as well as he could to hold third.
