The New Zealand gelding Surpass travelled well back in sixth place on the rails before being shuffled back to eight at the 600m point where he was giving the leader about seven lengths. He switched out rounding the home turn, sprinted quickly passing the 200m then went on to score impressively by just over five lengths running the 2100m out strongly. He is a promising stayer. The mare Love Of Liberty was handily placed on the rails to the 600m, challenged at the 200m and battled on to grab second at the post, having no chance with the winner. Mendivil was second to the 600m, made an early run to lead on straightening. He led clearly to the 200m before tiring in the closing stages for third in the straight. *ANZ
