Cliff's Edge went one better than his narrow debut second (caught in the last stride) at Ballarat two weeks ago. He led by a length at the 800m then punched out to a two length advantage just before straightening. Rider John Allen applied more pressure and they broke clear by three lengths inside the 300m. That break was too much for the chasers and they still had more than a length to spare at the post. Lone Eagle ran on strongly from well back for a sound second from Josephine Sea, who finished best of the rest but a distant third.
