Four-year-old-mare Forreel, a half-sister to multiple Group One winner Dundeel (High Chaparral) broke through for her first win here after placings in three of her five starts in New Zealand. Having her first run for new trainer Bjorn Baker, she settled in seventh place on the rails, took a split at the 300m, got to the front at the 100m and then fought back well to win in a photo. Three-year-old gelding General Artie, who was looking for his first win in four starts, raced in last place in the nine-horse field, switched deep at the 300m and then came with a good run for a late-closing second in a promising effort.
