Three-year-old filly Vincent’s Thirst was eased from her wide barrier (13) by Craig Newitt and settled midfield and wide but with cover. She started to improve (wide out) after passing the 600m and put in a strong run to take the lead on straightening. She had to dig deep when challenged mid-stretch and then battled gamely for a narrow but good win. It was a good staying effort, stepping up to 1600m today at only her third start. She looks a promising stayer. The four-year-old mare Artie Edna was handy third on the rails to the turn. She got through to second on turning for home and fought on well for a close second. *ANZ
