Three-year-old colt Prince Tarkeida resumed after his debut fourth in a 2YO Maiden Handicap (1400m) at Ballarat in May to score a surprise win. He was quickly away and settled outside the leader (Napoleon’s War) before moving up to pressure that running coming to the home turn. He got to the front at the 200m and then held on to win well. Napoleon’s War showed good pace from his inside barrier (1) to lead. He then held the front until half-way down the straight and battled on for second, going well on debut. Lord Von Costa was back in seventh place and made good late ground for third.
