The Robert Smerdon-trained three-year-old Henning improved on his debut third at Cranbourne a month ago to score a narrow but sound win here, handling the wet conditions well. He raced handy in about fifth place, three wide with cover, before moving up wide-out from the 600m point. He got to the lead at the 100m and fought back to win by a short head. Godavari followed the winner, racing about seventh wide with cover to the turn. He then kept plugging on well in the straight, failing narrowly at the post for second. The Darren Weir-trained Chloe Anna was past midfield and wide to the 600m and made ground late for third. *ANZ
