The addition of blinkers proved an astute move with It’s A Dundeel who began well and raced in a more prominent position eventually settling seventh on the rails. He switched away from the rails at the 600m, moved up strongly under the urgings of James McDonald rounding the home turn. The smart colt drew to the lead at the 150m and proved too strong in the closing stages to win by a half length in an impressive lead-up to the Rosehill Guineas (Gr 1, 2000m) and Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m). Proisir raced in third spot to the 600m, put in a strong bid at the 200m and battled on gamely for a good second, finding the winner a bit too strong in the closing stages. Tatra began quickly and went straight to the lead. He ran along at a good pace, leading to the 200m, then holding on fairly well for a sound first-up third, beaten just over three lengths. The favourite Rebel Dane ($2.80) began well and enjoyed a good trip fourth on the rails most of the way to the turn. He got an inside run at the 200m but failed to finish off strongly, at his first start beyond 1400m, to finish (3.7 lengths) fourth. Sacred Falls was second last to the 600m, switched out after turning for home and ran on nicely for fifth. The Australian Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Ferlax was about sixth to the 600m but failed to run on, finishing a disappointing seventh, beaten eight lengths. *ANZ
