Mackinac Island, after seconds at his latest two runs, scored his first win in six starts in good fashion here. He led early and after slowing the pace, took a trail before moving up nearing the home turn. He went to the front at the 200m and then drew away to win comfortably by two lengths, running the 1600m out well. The favourite Riva Romantica was a handy fourth, improved three deep rounding the home turn but she was under riding on straightening and then kept battling to take second after seeming to have every chance. *ANZ
