All Too Hard Mdn Plate
The Bjorn Baker-trained three-year-old Rock Of Mahal, who was having only his third race start, scored a good first-up win. He settled well in second place behind the leader (Valiant Mate) before moving up nicely nearing the home turn. He took the lead at the 200m and then fought back to win well. The favourite Elusive Star, from the Chris Waller stable, did not show any early pace and settled in last place in the eight-horse field before improving (wide) from the 600m. He got to fourth at the home turn and then ran on really well in the closing stages to take a good first-up second, looking suited to further. Valiant Mate led the field to the home turn and held on for third after seeming to have every chance.
