The Robert Smerdon-trained three-year-old General Zip scored his first win in three starts, putting up quite a good effort. He settled midfield, three wide with cover, before improving nicely rounding the home turn. He put in a good run to hit the lead at the 100m and then drew away to win by almost a length. The favourite Heza Dude did not show much early pace and settled seventh on the rails. He got a split on turning for home, going through to challenge nearing the 100m and then fought on for second, his sixth placing from as many starts.
