Cadillac Mountain settled in sixth place on the rails from his inside barrier (1), travelling comfortably behind quite a reasonable tempo. He improved nicely between runners at the 700m, came up quickly to challenge nearing the home turn and lifted nearing the post for a narrow but good win. Averau raced in second place, moved up outside the leader (Mujadale) at the 700m, went to the front coming to the home turn and fought back very well, only being headed nearing the post for a good second. The top weight (60kg) Hurdy Gurdy Man was eighth, one off the rails, improved wide with cover at the 600m, put in a run on straightening and fought on particularly well, running on late for a good third. Tanby was midfield, got a good run through and looked a threat at the 200m before battling on for fourth while Mujadale led the field to the 600m and fought on for (1.5 lengths) fifth.
