This G3 3yo over 1400m saw the odds on filly Prom Queen again show her rivals a clean and superior pair of heels. The inside lanes bias at Ashburton was colossal, as it often is, with just two of the eleven winners on the day coming down the middle lanes. The line-up was not strong but Prom Queen was having a first look over 1400m and after leading out with her natural speed sat second the outer in what seems her now favourite controlling spot. She took over turning for home and powered away before coasting to the line in 1:22.53, which was the best time all day significantly by over ten lengths. Prom Queen was recording today her eighth win from nine starts and she now has two G3 and two Listed successes. Her stable now want a G1 win at the mile so November 18 at her beloved Riccarton is when she wants to be the belle of the big day ball. Sensei ran on gamely after getting back but cannot give the winner such a start and the 2kg sex allowance. Age Of Fire was a distant third after sitting fifth and should stick to the males from now on or at least avoid Prom Queen if possible as she breaks the boy's hearts and maybe spirit at the moment. Greenpark Gem ran on okay late while the other main filly Kiwi Ida was a disappointing fifth after sitting third behind the slipstream of the winner. Finbarr was okay and would win a maiden race next time seen out. Savvy Coup got warm far too late and she needs further now and a maiden kill to get her eye in. Youseemenow was green but would win a maiden easily. Let Her Rip Riley is speedy so should stick to sprints only at this stage. The 1400m proved no obstacle in good time for Prom Queen so the mile looks a formality with her dominance at the moment. She could start one of the shorter priced runners ever in the G1 1000 Guineas.
