Much was expected from the hot favourite, Volpe Veloce, and she delivered, maintaining her unbeaten record in now five starts. Rider Johnathan Parkes bounced her out from barrier four and found a beautiful spot, one out and one back down the back straight. The moderate pace saw Parkes move up to third around the bend and was almost alongside the leaders just before straightening. Into the straight Volpe Veloce appeared flat and although she took a while to get going Parkes worked on her and eventually with 100m left to run they asserted their command and pulled away to win comfortably. Rip Into Ghia led around the bend and co-led into the straight, then kept going strongly to the line for a nice second. Storytime raced one out of the leader around the bend, co-led at the top of the straight and also ran on well to hold third. Unlucky Angeline looked for a run along the fence at the top of the straight but had nowhere to go then pulled out into the middle of the track and flashed into fourth late.
