On a day of fast times posted and in particular over the mile this Listed 1600m for the juveniles saw an all the way winner clock the slowest time of the day but that is misleading. Astara actually clocked a decent time of 1:34.32 to win by almost two lengths for juveniles after being in front then slipping well clear before the home turn. The filly was winning her second race in a row and was gaining her first blacktype success to go with a fourth at G2. Eleonora ran on well from second last to be runner up and the maiden filly will not be long in saluting the judge. Family Secret, also a maiden, trailed on the inner and finished third having every chance but making contact with the rail at the 800m did not help her cause or concentration. Quantum was seen fighting on okay but being a tad tardy worked against him. My Pasiann ran on from the rear late and should be a bigger force next season when more tractable and able to handle his frame. The rest were ordinary. This was a poor field for depth on paper as just three of the runners had won a race but as is often the case those in this when strong enough will need the mile or more next season. Astara would beat this field every time on manners and turn of foot so apart from giving her sire Dalghar a first stakes winner in New Zealand she looks to have improvement for next season. The filly will fill her frame out even better as a 3yo plus she already has good tactical speed.
