Westbury Classic (G2)

Sex: FM Type: OPEN

This G2 1400m for fillies and mares saw the pace modest but the class still shone through with Thee Auld Floozie beating an unlucky Mime by a nostril flare. Thee Auld Floozie at her last start had won at G1 versus all comers under set weights and penalties and although rising 4.5kg in this was well situated as the weight spread from top to bottom was just 3kg. The 5yo mare sat seventh the outer and surged the run home to lead with 150m to go before just holding on under 58kg in 1:23.19. It was her tenth win in twenty-eight starts and she has come of age this season in particular with eight starts so far reaping five wins of which three of them came at G1, G2 and Listed. The runner up Mime was resuming after spell and would have won if her rider Blake Shinn had gone the inside run as soon as turning for home. She was jogging in the trail but Shinn angled off looking to come between them if a gap appeared and with the knowledge the lanes a few widths off the inside have been the most trustable all day. Mime really wound up hard late once steered back to the inside but just missed victory and surely would have won if let stride through closer in at the 400m. Lucyinrio fought gamely to get the G2 third after racing second the outer and would not lay down the run home. Somethinginvain the leader fought well for fourth and only lost the G2 third placing the last couple of strides. She had got a cheap lead sectional across the top and it showed with almost no runner finding the line to any great extent. Caprikosa ran well for fifth after sitting sixth the inside throughout and working off the inside for the run home. Rising Shot made some ground from the back after an awkward start and she can be backed with confidence next time out. Lasarla raced handy and battled away okay while Big Dreamer settled back and battled closer. Zafrenzy settled back and never looked a hope and Latin Rose was outclassed. Girl Of My Dreams had a wide run working and reached fifth across the top but the effort told the run home. The big flop was Serious Satire, the stablemate of the winner, which settled back and never fired a shot. She was found to have a repetitive cough after the race so can be forgiven. The only G1 winner in the field Thee Auld Floozie won from a G1 runner up versus all comers in the Spring at WFA in Mime, so the quinella was the quality of the race. This pair even in a strong run race would likely have formed the quinella but the two runners from the race that can be backed next time out are the running on Rising Shot and a health excused Serious Satire.
