This Prestige Hurdle over 3100m saw Monarch Chimes embellish his reputation and book a trip to Australia and chase some lucrative leaping stakemoney. The rising 7yo gelding raced fifth or sixth the inner and once worked off strode up ominously across the top before challenging turning in for the run home. He led at the 300m and thereafter never looked like being beaten to win by a length and a half and clock 3:48.68. It was his fourth win in five hurdle starts and the other time he ran fourth in a Prestige event the Great Northern Hurdle (4190m) last September. No Change the local raced in or near the lead and fought hard once headed while It's A Wonder after getting well back ran on solidly for a good third. Tommyra and Kipkeino fought on fairly after racing handy the outer and inner respectively. Guy Fox after looping the field a lap out to share the lead stopped the run home, so maybe a tad more conservative ride could see this lightly tried leaper put on a better fencing fireworks display. Only one other runner finished and it was beaten over twenty lengths. Four other runners either lost the rider, fell or were pulled up. The winner Monarch Chimes over the lesser trips looks the real deal and has that turn of foot on the flat that can see him pass many rivals in an ominous manner. Not the strongest field of hurdlers and for some the ground was not heavy enough to keep up when it mattered.
