This Listed 1000m for juveniles was run on a disappointing and chipping out worse course proper by the race at Riccarton today. This chute event however was not so affected for the first half of the race at least and the speedy leader Prom Queen led throughout and scooted clear to remain unbeaten. The filly won by a length and three-quarters and clocked 57.50 (the track record at this trip is an impossible to believe 54.20 to put chute times here into perspective). Kiwi Ida made it a quinella for the fillies by running on well for second after sitting fifth between runners. Sensei ran a sound race for third after sitting sixth and wide with the favourite reaching second at the 150m. Gilhoolie the second favourite sat outside the winning leader and weakened to fourth while Lady Rossa on debut ran a meritorious fifth after sitting wide near the pace throughout. She has some scope. This was a reasonable strength blacktype 2yo event so a shame the track was as poorly presented and behaved as today.
