Carriers Arms Htl Riverton Cup (LR)

Type: OPEN

This Listed event was a big field on a track that was cutting up markedly and definitely well into the slow range. The winner was a mare unsurprisingly as they dominate New Zealand racing at all levels. The big mare Miss Three Stars came with ground devouring strides the closing stages to score after settling back of midfield. It was her fifth win in nineteen starts and the first success at middle distance so she has a lot more wins in store. Miss Three Stars was also notching her first blacktype success and her trainer Tommy Beckett will have been chuffed to win the Riverton feature. He also entrusted the ride to apprentice Samantha Wynne in a non-claiming event because she gets the best out of the mare and was recording her fourth success atop her today. Sureasyouwereborn was game in defeat and put up another rugged display after racing close and she loves being in a scrap over middle distance. Oor Wullie ran on strongly down the fourth for third from the back and unleashed with the eventual winner. Eva Keeneva was the sentimental favourite for those on course and watching with the close up fourth yet another brave effort. Ric O’Shea gave some cheek until late while Mr Nobody and No Emotion boxed on well considering the class of field as both are eligible for easier opposition. King Prawn was okay and Our Bee Jay after leading was run over the final 200m plus The Bishop was wide for the vast majority of the race and weakened to tenth. The winning time of 2:19.94 is nothing flash but put into perspective with the race prior being a couple of grades lower clocked 2:21.19 or roughly seven and a half lengths inferior. The winner has a lot more wins ahead and now she has a stamina string to add too her bow. Suresasyouwereborn is durable and tough now so think what she will be next season as a more mature 5yo mare. Oor Wullie is a staying force no matter the footing while the mare Eva Keeneva deserves a big race win for the way she keeps fighting in her races no matter the trip she gets.
