The rail was out 8m today and the manmade bias was rampant towards on pacers all day, so take results with a grain of salt or in this case sand. The winners and where they turned for home in order were led, second, led, sixth (inner and two and a half lengths from leader), led, co-leader, seventh (inner then angled off turning in and three lengths from leader) and second. This Listed 1200m drew a small and weak field indeed so no surprise then that the clear cut quinella was two mares in Indecision winning comfortably over Yearn that was in turn clear of the rest. Indecision soon led and was running along freely with no pressure a length in front then pinched another half a length across the top to home turn. The 5yo mare kicked away the run home and ended up scoring by almost two lengths in 1:09.48 to record her fifth win in twenty starts of which two are now Listed successes. The time was reflective of the manmade bias day towards on speed and the inside as the final race, a Benchmark 75 (three or four grades inferior) was won easily in 1:09.73, so only just over a length inferior. Yearn sat fourth then third the inner getting a soft sit the inside then worked off and into second at the 300m but was chasing in vain thereafter. Aligns With Me, a one-win 4yo gelding was miles out of his depth here and could not even score in midweek grade but powered home from last for third. He was slow out and still last the 200m before stomping home deepest and showed just how lacking in depth this field really was when finishing third beaten just over three and a half lengths. The rest were weak or manmade track bias victims plus the kickback here from the excessive sand-slitting is absurd and many runners just give up the run home much to the dismay of bettors. You can always forgive a flop at Te Rapa these days with such colossal manmade track bias as the stinging sand kickback causes runners to hoist the white flag quickly, a lot like bettors. Conversely a lot of the win form or even placings are very dubious at times and often totally misleading, so it is a conundrum circuit causing low confidence for both runners and bettors alike.
