Age: 2yo Type: OPEN

This Listed 2yo over 1100m at set weights saw the filly Rainbow Dash sit three-wide third near the speed and kick on to win and dent a few reputations in the process. Rainbow Dash has only missed finishing first or second once in her first campaign and it came on a bog track at G1 when not disgraced as her rider stayed too close in the run home on much slower lanes. She has tactical speed so can always get out of trouble and/or keep out of any strife, so today from an awkward draw went forward as usual but got caught wide in the open third The winners and where they turned for home in race order were led (three-off the inside and two lengths clear), second (two-off the inside and ten lengths from the leader), third (four-off the inside and a length from the leader), led (four-off the inside and a length clear), seventh (six-off the inside and three and a half lengths from the leader), third (four-off the inside and length and a half from the leader), third (four-off the inside and a length and a quarter form the leader), ninth (four-off the inside and four lengths from the leader) and fourth (two-off the inside and two lengths from the leader). The way the Te Rapa track raced and was presented saw getting away from the fence imperative but also sitting deep was not a negative owing to the excessive sand-slitting on the track and associated awful kickback. Rainbow Dash got no stinging sand in her face sitting third wide to the home turn and she was still there at the 200m and 100m not going away. The filly kept coming in fact and led at the 50m to score by half a length in 1:05.52 and record her third win from six starts and a first at Blacktype level. She has a G2 second already in her burgeoning resume. Whiskey Neat started again very short in the market and got beat once again and cannot have any excuses after sitting second outside the leader and in fact kept the winner wider throughout. The gelding has speed but in a fight gets that asterisk still of doubt because you cannot deny his fluent speed and showiness but that counts for nothing in an equine brawl. Ramazotti the leader on settling fought on well for third and was just half a length behind the runner up at the line so the first three on settling down formed the trifecta. Folk Dress did not get away cleanly and as a result got back and wide but she was noticed running on gamely for fourth beaten just over a length. She looks an exciting type for next season and not just a sprinter so the best is still to come for this Australian bred filly. Kurt was not too bad late the inside after getting back further than was helpful and this colt has scope for next season. Louis Luck is a forgive as the room ahead was suspect the closing stages when having something to offer. Bronte Breach ran home well late from third last on settling and this filly had impressed in her win before today and the effort in this, so is another name that will be a Blacktype force as a 3yo. Harlech was not too bad when eighth beaten just under three and a half lengths while Scorpz was running on a shade late from last turning for home. Acting Up battled away as did Showmeroses with the pair both beaten four lengths while the last finisher slightly detached was King Midas after having had a gut buster fifth or sixth wide throughout. This looks like a rich source of Spring 3yo form next season and in particular Blacktype players as a lot of late developers were involved today. The filly depth in this is likely to shine brighter next season but the colts and geldings had a wider range of runners regarding some being middle distance types rather than just sprinter milers.
