It had been a challenging 28 days for trainer Glenn Dainton as he appealed the severity of the marring charge for Dookie Devil from The Sale Cup placing to Jarick Bale. The appeal which was lodge with Victorian Racing Tribunal(VRT) was eventaully dismissed and Dainton had to prepare his super charge Dookie Devil without a run prior to The Rookie Rebel.

Dookie Devils emphatic win defeating Jarick Bale was even sweeter considering Jarick Bale was the defending Rookie Rebel champion and overturned a form reversal after Jarick Bale had beat Dookie Devil in The Sale cup back on Boxing Day last year. Dookie Devil left rivals such as French Martini and El Dorado in his dust as he posted a clock burning time of 34.28.

The victory was Dainton's second at Group One level. His first success was with talented chaser Black Impala who won The Hume Cup over 600 metres back in 2018. For Dookie Devil lightly raced with just 26 starts and saluting with his 12th win he added to his growing resume. After winning the Group Three Sir John Dillon Memorial over 595 metres at Sandown.

Dookie Devil's win in the Group One Rookie Rebel extended his record to four wins from his last five starts. It will be no surprise now if Dainton aims his charge at the Country Classic series culminating with a $150,000 winners cheque at Dubbo greyhound track in March. The series now being the richest middle distance series in the world.
