Intriguing Group One Paws Of Thunder Awaits

3 minute read

Saturday nights Group One Paws Of Thunder is set to be an intriguing final after the box draw made it even more difficult to find the winner of the $75,000. It's now a race of many possible scenarios.

Last Saturday's heats went very much to plan with most of the pre post favourites for the event progressing through to the final. Setting up for what is a terrific field for this weeks final. The favourite for The Paws Of Thunder is now the Peter Lagogiane trained French Martini at $3 off box one.

French Martini set the pace with the fastest heat win jumping from box two and running 29.45 as a $2.10 favourite. It was a vast improvement on her recent disapointing Melbourne form and her failure in the Gosford Cup. It was back to her front running best form and drawing box one in the final now sees her installed a $3 fixed odds favourite with Ladbrokes.

She's A Pearl showed why she has been considered the Queen of Wentworth Park when she returned to her hunting ground and as a $1.30 favourite beat the easiest field of the heats in a slick 29.62. She now draws box 8 in the final with an incredible record of 5 starts off box 8 for 5 wins. She is very well boxed considering she wants to use the track a little.

Amron Boy travelled up the highway to Sydney leaving Victoria in stiffling heat. On his current form he is seen by many experts as the best chaser in Australia at present. Although Ibrox Wildfire pushed him all the way in his heat and at one point looked vulnerable, he showed extreme tenacity to win in 29.85 as a $1.18 favourite.

The task proving even harder this week as he drew terribly in box 5 for the final. However if any greyhound can overcome adversity in running it's Amron Boy. He has showed even in The Million Dollar Phoenix when against quality opposition that he can make up many lengths in running.

On Saturday night The Paws Of Thunder may just be a chariot race to the first turn as greyhounds Gatlin, Zipping Maserati and Reflections can all show an abundant of early toe. There will be no place for the light hearted into the first turn. It may be whoever shows the most determination into the first turn that walks away with the Group One Paws Of Thunder in their keeping.

French Martini having drawn box one will not be afforded any opportinity to miss the kick with an abundance of early speed on her outside. She will need to jump and punch up and hold her position if she is to win. Should be a great race ahead of a crackerjack meeting at Wentworth Park.
