Following in the footsteps of Shane van Gisbergen and Brodie Kostecki, Supercars gun Will Brown has snapped up his opportunity for a NASCAR Cup debut.

Brown announced on Thursday he will team up with Richard Childress Racing for a guest stint at Sonoma Raceway, California, on June 9.

The Toowoomba product is the latest Supercars-based driver to head to the renowned American series, with van Gisbergen and Kostecki each getting guest races last year.

"Looking back at my career, I'd never thought I'd be in the situation I'm in, even without the NASCAR," Brown said on Thursday.

"To announce that I'm racing NASCAR, a one-off race this year, is really cool. I didn't think I'd get that opportunity."

Brown will be facing off with fellow Supercars rival Cam Waters, who confirmed earlier in the week he would be steering an RFK Racing Ford Mustang the same weekend.

Waters made his debut in the NASCAR Truck Series for ThorSport Racing this year at Martinsville Speedway and Kansas Speedway.

Brown has enjoyed a red-hot start to the Supercars season with three wins and seven podium finishes after three rounds.

The 25-year-old (809 points) leads the Supercars standings and boasts a massive 71-point buffer over Red Bull teammate Broc Feeney going into the Perth SuperSprint.

Drivers will head to Wanneroo Racecourse for the first practice session of the weekend at 2.20pm (AWST) on Friday.
